Meet Our Team
Great care begins with great people. At Flourish Health, child psychiatrists, therapists, advocates, engineers, and operational leaders unite around a shared mission: making excellent mental health care accessible to every young person. We do this work because we believe deeply in the potential of young people. And we show up every day so our patients and families can flourish.

Our Founders
Our founders started Flourish Health to bring the best mental health care to young people in their own homes. Their expertise in clinical care, health systems, and technology powers a new model of care designed to help families thrive.

Natalia Birgisson, MD
Natalia Birgisson, MD, is CEO and Co-Founder of Flourish Health, where she leads this incredible team in the mission of bringing excellent care to all young people with serious mental health needs. Prior to Flourish, Dr. Birgisson spent 12 years at Stanford where she trained as a physician with a focus on pediatrics and psychiatry. There she saw first hand the impact of severe mental illness in children and young adults, including treating children in the emergency department who sustained life threatening injuries as a result of suicide attempts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Birgisson served as a frontline physician and co-authored an academic publication on the worsening epidemic of youth mental health.
Dr. Birgisson also spent 4 years at Doximity, a company that builds tools for doctors in an iPhone app. She was with Doximity from when they were Series C through IPO. As Director of Strategy, Dr. Birgisson supported the IPO roadshow project management, led national data journalism reports on physician salaries and wellness, and helped roll out the video telehealth platform that supported over 63 million patient encounters in one year.
Dr. Birgisson is passionate about combining technology and clinical care to invest in a healthier future. In her free time, Natalia volunteers as a mentor for young adults in foster care. You might also run into her on the hiking trails near the Bay Area, chasing after her dog with poop bags.

John Haskell
John Haskell is Co-Founder and President at Flourish. He leads growth for the company, working with health plans and families to increase access to care. In addition to Flourish, John has helped launch multiple companies, all with the shared aim to improve outcomes around challenging behavioral health conditions. Josh Gachnang
Josh Gachnang serves as Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Flourish Health, where he leads the development of the company’s technology platform and oversees engineering across the organization. A computer science graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Josh has more than a decade of experience building scalable, HIPAA-compliant healthcare software, including as the first engineering hire at Trigger Health, a substance use disorder startup later acquired by SonarMD.
At Flourish, he designed and built a custom electronic health record to support multidisciplinary care teams, integrate data from wearable devices, and enable both virtual and in-home care. Josh came to this work after seeing how thoughtfully designed technology could help people recover from addiction—an experience that shaped his belief that software should serve clinicians and families, not get in their way.
Our Senior Leaders
Our senior leaders bring decades of experience in direct patient care, product development and operational scaling for the very population we serve. They are building Flourish Health so that we can deliver excellent care at scale.

Kyle Kurtz
Kyle Kurtz is Senior Director of Engineering at Flourish Health, where he leads the team responsible for building and scaling the technology that supports adolescent mental health care. Since Flourish’s earliest days—when the company had an idea but no patients—Kyle has overseen the development of the platform now used by more than 300 patients and the clinicians who support them. He manages a team of five engineers and works closely with clinical, operational, and compliance partners to ensure the technology evolves alongside the needs of care teams and families.
Before joining Flourish, Kyle spent over 13 years building software in complex, highly regulated environments, including aviation, defense, and intelligence. While Flourish marked his first role in healthcare, that background prepared him to navigate the rigor, reliability, and security required in clinical settings.
Kyle was drawn to Flourish by the opportunity to apply engineering expertise to a mission with clear human impact. He is proud to help build systems that reduce administrative burden for clinicians and make it easier for families to access consistent, high-quality care during critical moments in their children’s lives.
Kyle holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and additional training in computer and information systems security.
